What To Do
- -In my opinion, this matchup is as hard as Irelia. There's not many players that play Akshan top (due to relative champ difficulty), so if you see one you are likely playing against a one trick that will probably know what's up. You can think of Akshan like a Quinn that is geared way more towards dueling and skirmishing but has less map-wide mobility. He can also cheat tempo just like us with his super random ability to revive all of his teammates after you worked so hard to kill them like nothing even happened :(
- -This matchup can feel like a feast or famine. Akshan has the potential to make your lane and skirmishes you both join feel very one-sided, while you have the potential to equally snowball off a few kills from him or his team and kill him on repeat. The reason why this is labeled as Extreme is because a good Akshan will not make it easy for you to get those few kills to snowball, and has many tools in his kit to shut you down, snowball faster than you, and deny you kills.
- -The key in this matchup during lane is to ONLY ever trade offensively if you land your Q on him. He will be unable to retaliate when he is nearsighted. You can basically never trade autos with him directly, because his passive gives him double our autos, allowing him to proc electrocute or PTA before we can, as well as a shield once he hits you with 3 autos or abilities.
- -If he uses E (wall swing) to engage on you, you can answer by canceling it with your own E and following up with a single auto attack to proc harrier and exit his attack range asap if your Q is down. I recommend using E directly instead of trying to auto-E, since you want to cancel his E damage as soon as possible. If your E is down for some other reason and Akshan engages with E, wait until after he lands to Q him. If you try to line your Q up with his swing trajectory, a good Akshan will be able to simply cancel the swing in a way that dodges the Q and follow up with big damage.
- -His E has a long 18 second cooldown at lvl 1, so whenever he blows it use that opportunity to try and land your Q to trade with him.
- -You both scale, so your goal every game is to show up to fights faster than he can (e.g., after both of you back) and to make more plays around the map than he can with his inferior map-wide mobility. If you both show up to a fight at the same time, he will likely be able to control the fight with his E (which resets after kills) and his R (which has high range to snipe people and get E resets and revives).
- -Also never overextend if behind, since Akshan can easily sneak up on you with his W invisibility and assassinate you.
Level-by-Level
Lvl 1 is highly favored into Akshan, so defend the 1st top bush and make sure you can get exp from the first wave to hit level 2.
If you start Q to sneak a trade, he can E you into oblivion and proc his passive on you for free, which is why you almost always need to start E. But because you don't have Q, you cannot trade with him.
Even if he shows that he started Q, I recommend still starting E, since he can easily get prio, get lvl 2 before you, and then E you into oblivion when you have no E.
The lane is slightly more playable once you reach level 2 and get your Q. Always land Q before trading with him, and use your E to cancel his E.
Try to dodge his Q's if possible (it has 850 range, which is higher than our 525 AA range, but lower than our Q 1025 range). He will sometimes use it on the wave to try and hit you if you are farther than 850 units (since his Q extends if it hits a target). Try to always position yourself so there is never more than one minion in between you and Akshan, so he cannot easily hit you with an extended Q.
His ult is long range and can be charged to deal more damage. It can be blocked by minions and towers, so retreat behind those if you can when he uses R.
