What To Do
- -Seems like an impossible matchup post 6. [S16 Note: Changed difficulty to Hard due to lack of Phase Rush, but it is not a completely one-sided matchup like late game malphite or irelia. Just need to pay attention to spacing and positioning when playing against Olaf. Fleet will help with kiting while PTA will help burst him down so he cannot engage.]
- -First, make sure to side step Olaf's Qs in lane with your harrier procs. If he lands a Q on you and tries running you down, Auto E Auto combo him to proc harrier and start kiting towards your tower. Need to play a bit safer, since we don't have the phase rush get out of jail free card.
- -The matchup pre 6 is slightly quinn favoured, so side step his axes and then play the matchup as any other melee matchup, which is be aggressive when olaf misses Q.
- -He has no gap closers without it, so you can hard trade him.
- -If you are getting in an intense 1v1 with him and brought ignite, ignite kinda earlier to apply griev wounds to mitigate his W heal and conq heal, and also to proc nimbus cloak from your runes to grant you extra MS.
- -Now, post 6 Olaf DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT vault olaf while his R is active. If you are extremely low and have no choice, then that is the only time you should vault him when his R is active. The reason you don't is becasue R grants him slow immunity, and so your E will not slow NOR knock olaf back, and that is a critical part about Quinn's vault ability.
- -How to win post 6 olaf is, when he activates R, instantly disengage by consuming a harrier from passive or Q and kite back towards tower or a safe location. Use sums if you need to.
- -Side step the axes if you can, and focus on trying to just run away by procing harriers from passive or q when you can.
- -NOW, when his 6 second R ends, if you still have a decent amount of HP, IMMEDIATELY use vault on olaf, and then re-engage on him because he will have no gap closer without his ult :)
- -[S16 Note: No more bork active either, but swifties rush and getting move speed items like kraken/PD/Stormrazor (along with fleet) will help tremendously with kiting and chasing. If you are confident and go lethality, you likely won't be interacting much with Olaf anyway and should be playing the map and for scale. Just don't roam too much, because Olaf can melt towers and get tons of plates.]
Level-by-Level
[S16 Note: We no longer "hard win" level 1, because there's no more phase rush. It becomes a relatively even matchup, and will depend on your ability to weave autos while kiting and using E to zone him from his axe. At the beginning of the game, you are going to rush into and defend the second bush top. Stay at the edge towards your tower, since Olaf may try to check the bush with Q. If he does, use AA-E-AA combo to zone him from his axe. If he hits you, start kiting him back towards tower. Olaf cannot reliably all-in you without taking a bunch of damage himself. This is the case even with ghost and Q's at lvl 1, since we bring our own ghost / nimbus ignite and have our E. We hard outscale him with 2-3 items and mortal reminder, as long as he rack up a ton of kills before then. So going even or slightly behind here is a win.]
Play these levels aggressively when you have E up, because he loses all trades if it's up. Your goal is to jump on Olaf whenver you get the chance to, and then continue autoing him until he runs away. [S16 Note: Since phase rush is gone, be wary of an all-in from Olaf after he sees you used up your E. Match his ghost if you are farther away from the tower.] When E is down, play a little bit more back because you need it to prevent his trades if he tries to go onto you.
[S16 Note: without phase rush, we do not ever "beat" Olaf 1v1 when even at lvl 6. I would not position far up into the lane if he is about to get R, so you can more quickly run back to tower. When he uses R, your goal - similar to the ksante matchup, will be to use all means available to disengage until it wears off. If Olaf uses both ult and ghost, now is a good time to use yours as well. It's a worthwhile trade, because those are his only ways of engaging onto you, and while he will be slightly faster with both, you only just need to run long enough to get to safety.] Do not use your E when he has R because he can literally walk forward and won't be pushed back at all. The second his R duration ends, instantly vault him because now he will be knocked back and slowed from your E, which sets him up to lose the following fight when his R expires. Run away during his R, E is good the second it ends after. If you need to E during his R because you're 100% dead if you don't use it, then wait for Olaf to go into melee range of you. Quinn's E does not give you distance if you vault from max range, but the closer he is to you, the further your E will push you back, so use E when he is right on top of you to give you a little dash.
