Strategy Guide
What To Do
- -Like other ADC matchups, Varus outranges us (600 vs 525) and will destroy us if we directly trade autos with him due to his passive and abilities that proc it. But like other ADC matchups, your window to trade with him is after you land you Q, which has higher range than his autos. He also cannot really engage on us if we play back and will be forced to waste mana and poke us with 0 blight stacks.
- -The new items this season like dusk and dawn and hexplate are particularly strong on varus, so you should assume that he will be able to 1v1 you until you get 2-3 items.
- -His ult is very strong against us, and can set him up for lethal damage when comboed with his W or set up a gank or dive from JG and/or mid. Try to dodge or flash his R when possible. Otherwise, picking up an edge of knight will help you from getting tagged by it in the mid-late game. If you do get ulted, try to land your blind so he has to walk up to auto you. Once he picks up 3 or so AP items, he will likely be able to one shot you if he lands an R, so play carefully when he has it up.
- -We hard outscale him in because he is an immobile ADC that will be forced to manage side lanes mid-late. Use your map-wide mobility to avoid 1v1s with him unless you have the items and look to make plays around the map instead.
- -You will win in the mid game if you can get through laning with minimal deaths.
Level-by-Level
L1
He will likely be stronger than you at lvl 1 with W and bone plating, so look to defend the first top bush or the river bush. Your goal will be to not get zoned from the wave lvl 1 by him.
L2
Only trade if you can land your Q. Otherwise he will out-trade us with a couple autos and his Q or E, which are difficult to dodge without move speed.
L6
Watch out for his R, especially if you are sitting around less than 60% hp - if you don't dodge it he can easily 100-0 you if he ults from within his minion wave to deny your Q blind.
