Strategy Guide

What To Do

  • -I have only played against a handful of Zaahen top players in high elo, but my sense from those games and reviewing other folks' games is that Zaahen is very weak early game, so your goal will be to secure early leads before he scales.
  • -The matchup is heavily Quinn favored before level 6, and you can sustain or kite all of his abilities early game.
  • -Like Camille, his Q has 2 casts. They both give him extra 25 range, and the second one is a knockup. They are both uncancellable windups, so Quinn E can technically cancel them. However, you want to save your E until after Zaahen uses his W pull ability. Zaahen will typically look to combo the Q2 with his W, so he gets a guaranteed knockup. If the pull hits you, you will not have enough time to E, so wait for the knockup to finish and then you can trade back with AA-E-AA.
  • -If the pull misses, he will try to E-Q2 you for the knockup instead. You are going to want to E him as soon as he presses E here, to ruin his chances of hitting his Q2 knockup on you. His E is a short dash that has a darius-Q-esque hitbox that does both bonus physical damage (scaling with Zaahen's AD) and bonus magic damage (scaling with % target max health).
  • -Fun fact is that your E can cancel the damage part of Zaahen's E if you E early enough, and it still puts his E fully on CD.
  • -However in general, you still want to save your E for canceling his E only when his W is down, since Zaahen can actually buffer his W when the damage portion of his E gets canceled (otherwise normally he would have to wait for the damage to go off before he can cast W). A buffered W WILL hit you mid-vault, pull you towards him, and allow him to take a favorable trade with Q2 when you have no E.
  • -Like other early-game favored matchups, slow-push and attempt/call for a dive if he is low. Otherwise you can cheater recall and freeze when the wave bounces back. Deny gold/exp and be extremely aggressive during this time - call for a gank if available as well.
  • -Post 6, his R can turn a fight around, so respect it appropriately and make sure you are again saving E until after he uses his W for canceling his E or E-Q2 combo. Then just kite him to victory. If he pops ghost, you can match it if you think the fight will be close.

Level-by-Level

L1

He is extremely weak lvl 1. They can start any ability, but they are all useless by themselves. Look for a Quinn Cheese and try to get a huge trade if he tries to walk up at all. Zone him from the first wave because he cannot do anything to you, especially if you are running lethal.

L2

It's likely still a crapshoot what ability he leveled here, so I would hold off on using E in case he has W. If he shows he has Q and E, you can freely cancel his Es with your E and go for big punishing trades.

L3

Now that he has w, you will need to wait for him to use it before you can use your E. It has a 16 second CD at level 1 (and he usually maxes it last), so you have about that much time to play aggro once he uses it levels 1-13.

L4

His R is a gapclose with high AOE damage and healing per champion hit. He always falls in the center, so if you know you are going to be hit by it, you can use the 0.5s cast time to position yourself to E to safety. Just be careful of the W and his Q2 if they are still up.
